The Seasons of Our Values: Growing Into Who You Are

Over the past six months, I’ve noticed an interesting pattern.

Certain values seem to take the lead at different moments in my life.

In one month, I've gained an understanding of my self-worth and the significance of respecting my value.

Another month, I was invited into surrender — letting go of control and trusting timing.

The following three months brought purpose, faith, and strength.

And now, as I move through October, the themes that keep calling me are freedom and becoming who I am.

It made me realise: while my core values like family, love, connection, and impact never leave me, there are other values that rise and fall like the tides.

They evolve with me. They have seasons.

The Idea of Seasonal Values

Our core values are the roots — they anchor us.

But our seasonal values are the growth — they are the lessons life is highlighting right now.

“Seasonal values show us where attention, healing, or courage is needed.”

Sometimes, a seasonal value arrives to strengthen something that has been neglected; other times, it invites us to release an old pattern.

When we listen, we begin to see our growth not as chaos, but as rhythm.

“Recognising seasonal values helps us find the rhythm in our growth.”

Values Do Evolve

Research backs this up. Studies show that personal and moral values shift with context and time — especially during transitions. One 2024 study even found that moral values change with the seasons, following natural cycles of life and energy.

“Our internal compass moves just like the world around us.”

So, changing values do not mean inconsistency — they are a reflection of growth in motion.

“Shifting values are a sign of evolving identity.”

How to Find Your Value of the Season

Take a few minutes to reflect:

  • Look back at recent months.

    • What themes or lessons have kept recurring?

  • Notice what is alive for you now.

    • Which value feels most present, meaningful, or challenging?

  • Name it and define it in your own words.

Example: “Freedom: the courage to live as I am, without apology or permission.”

  • Live it intentionally. Let that value guide your daily decisions and mindset.

See how it reshapes the way you show up.

“Living your seasonal value brings clarity and alignment.”

Why It Matters

When you know the value leading your current season, everything starts to make sense—your emotions, your choices, even your growth edges. It brings clarity and compassion to the process of becoming.

“Awareness of seasonal values turns confusion into clarity.”

Because life doesn’t just ask us to know who we are. It asks us to become who we are—one season, one value, one insight at a time.

“Becoming oneself is guided by the values we embrace.”

Over to You

What’s your value of the season right now?

Is it courage, peace, creativity, or freedom?

I’d love to hear what’s guiding your current chapter.
